Fire Alarm System
Inspiring Futures through Learning
Corby, Northamptonshire
Appointed Principal contractor for the planning, Installation, and commissioning of an addressable networked fire alarm system and new emergency lighting at Exeter School, Brayford Avenue, Corby, within the two blocks on site.
- Upgrade the fire detection and alarm systems within the two blocks to ensure a complete site-wide fire evacuation with full control of the system from either block.
- 24/ 7 Monitored fire protection system connected to alarm receiving centre through a Dual Com Pro Fire to ensure a fast response from the fire brigade and keyholders out-of-hours
- Key stage 1 block upgrade old style failed emergency lighting to new energy efficient LED fittings
- Appoint a principal contractor to manage all aspects of the project
- Complete the work in the 6-week summer holidays
- Maintain a working fire alarm system or minimise the risk of downtime.
TEC Fire & Security upgraded the fire alarm systems following the strict requirements set out in BS5839 part 1 2017. The school now has a reliable system that communicates with the central station and between the two blocks, allowing a full evacuation. The alarm can be silenced and reset from either block. Most importantly, the safe evacuation of all pupils, staff, and visitors has now been achieved when the alarm activates.
The free swing door closers allow doors to remain open during normal times, allowing pupils to move freely but then close in the event of fire activation, creating fire compartments and preventing the spread of fire.
A fire alarm relay was fitted to the roller shutter within a covered area within the infant’s area. This has been programmed to raise the alarm to ensure a safe escape for both staff and pupils.
The new emergency lighting fitted to the regulations of BS 5266 Part 1 2016 is LED and much more energy efficient. It provides better lighting levels and saves sites the issue of having to change lamps.
A great project delivered on time and a pleasure to work with all involved. Through collaboration and good communication, the above project was achieved.
