Fire extinguishers are potentially the most recognised form of fire safety, closely followed by fire blankets.
All premises must have extinguishers provided for dealing with any potential fire hazard as identified in the fire risk assessment or by the competent person on site.
In deciding the appropriate type and quantity of such equipment, consideration should be given to the size of the building and the nature of the materials likely to be found there.

All the extinguishers supplied by TEC Fire & Security meet British Standards – BS5306-3:2009 & BS5306-8:2012.

Fire Blankets
Historically, fire blankets have been most commonly found in kitchens. While it’s still essential to have fire blankets installed in kitchens, they are increasingly being used in educational, factory, and mechanical settings as well.
Fire Blankets are increasingly being installed in public areas, such as kitchens, schools, rented accommodations, shops and other places of business.
Fire blankets are designed to smother small fires, starving the fire of oxygen using it’s fire retardant, multi-layered construction. In kitchens, fire blankets have been visible for decades, and fats or oils are perhaps used in conjunction with a heat source. It makes perfect logical sense. But where else might they be more effective and valuable than a fire extinguisher?
Fire blankets have often been used to protect the body when exiting a building on fire. They have also been used to cover a person unfortunate enough to catch their clothes alight. Wrapping a fire blanket around them and pushing them to the ground minimises the danger and extinguishes the fire.
A fire blanket is much more effective than an extinguisher in these situations.
So where else might be a valuable and logical place to locate fire blankets in your premises?
